Romance Books Recommendation! ♡

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY MY LOVELIES! ❤

If you aren’t aware already, I am a hopeless romantic. I’ve been exploring this genre for three years now and it’s safe to say that Romance books are probably my favorite kinds of books! They can be light, angsty, steamy and mysterious all at the same time. Today, i’ll be sharing with you guys some of my favorite romance books of all time!

Of course, most of the books we read these days have a hint of romance in them no matter the genre. But the books i’ll be sharing today are ones that have stories that focuses on the aspects and themes of love itself.

Now, without further ado, let’s fall in love (or cry. but they mean the same thing when you read a really angsty book, right?)

[ROMANCE-LIGHT-YOUNG ADULT]

The Selection by Kiera Cass (The Selection #1)

10507293

Synopsis:

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself—and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Thoughts:

Okay I’m not the biggest fan of love triangles but this series just really works for me in a way?? xD It’s soo addicting and interesting. It’s a lot like America’s (no pun intended) Next Top Model except it’s a competition where girls compete for the prince’s hand in marriage. Lots of people don’t find this the best book out there and while I do agree, it’s definitely a really light and cute read!

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before #1 )

15749186

Synopsis:

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all.

Thoughts:

This book has my faaavorite family elements. The Covey family is just the cutest! This is one of those books that does not have much of a plot and it’s mostly character driven so it focuses on the character development instead. It’s a really fun and cute read!

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (Anna and The French Kiss #1 )

17453983

Synopsis:

Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris–until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all…including a serious girlfriend.

But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss?

Thoughts:

This was my very first YA romance and I’m still obsessed with it until today xD This story is tad bit cliche but it’s meant to be a feel good book. I love Stephanie Perkins’ romance series. ❤

[ROMANCE-LIGHT-MATURE]

Paper Princess by Erin Watt (The Royals #1)

28678119

Synopsis:

These Royals will ruin you…

He might be right.

Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.

Thoughts:

Urgh this one’s a frustrating book. But it’s addicting. Love/hate relationships are just so complicated XD It’s one of those books where the guy and the girl despises each at the beginning and then things start to spark once they get to know each other. It’s one of my guilty pleasure trope ^^’

Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines (The Field Party #1)

22522202

Synopsis:

To everyone who knows him, West Ashby has always been that guy: the cocky, popular, way-too-handsome-for-his-own-good football god who led Lawton High to the state championships. But while West may be Big Man on Campus on the outside, on the inside he’s battling the grief that comes with watching his father slowly die of cancer.

Two years ago, Maggie Carleton’s life fell apart when her father murdered her mother. And after she told the police what happened, she stopped speaking and hasn’t spoken since. Even the move to Lawton, Alabama, couldn’t draw Maggie back out. So she stayed quiet, keeping her sorrow and her fractured heart hidden away.

As West’s pain becomes too much to handle, he knows he needs to talk to someone about his father—so in the dark shadows of a post-game party, he opens up to the one girl who he knows won’t tell anyone else.

West expected that talking about his dad would bring some relief, or at least a flood of emotions he couldn’t control. But he never expected the quiet new girl to reply, to reveal a pain even deeper than his own—or for them to form a connection so strong that he couldn’t ever let her go…

Thoughts:

This one was aaaangsty xD but SO satisfying! It’s one of those books where the main characters are just so broken that you can’t help but love them (or maybe it’s just me cause i’m a sucker for characters with tragic pasts 😥 ).

[ROMANCE-LIGHT-NEW ADULT]

The Deal by Elle Kennedy (Off-Campus #1)

24920901

Synopsis:

…and it’s going to be oh so good

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

Thoughts:

This book had it all. It was funny, sexy and the writing just sucks you into this massive black hole and never lets you leave. This series is my absolute favorite and you just can’t help but love all the Briar boys ❤

Wallbanger by Alice Clayton (Cocktail #1)

15858248

Synopsis:

The first night after Caroline moves into her fantastic new San Francisco apartment, she realizes she’s gaining an intimate knowledge of her new neighbor’s nocturnal adventures. Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy’s athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women. And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed dating hiatus, and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. The tension between them is as thick as the walls are thin, and the results just as mixed. Suddenly, Caroline is finding she may have discovered a whole new definition of neighborly…

Thoughts:

Lots of teasing. Main characters annoy the hell out of each other at the beginning but grows hot for one another. A bit annoying. SUPER FUNNY.

Love, Rosie by Cecilia Ahern

147865

Synopsis:

Rosie and Alex are destined for one another, and everyone seems to know it but them. Best friends since childhood, their relationship gets closer by the day, until Alex gets the news that his family is leaving Dublin and moving to Boston. At 17, Rosie and Alex have just started to see each other in a more romantic light. Devastated, the two make plans for Rosie to apply to colleges in the U.S.

She gets into Boston University, Alex gets into Harvard, and everything is falling into place, when on the eve of her departure, Rosie gets news that will change their lives forever: She’s pregnant by a boy she’d gone out with while on the rebound from Alex.

Her dreams for college, Alex, and a glamorous career dashed, Rosie stays in Dublin to become a single mother, while Alex pursues a medical career and a new love in Boston. But destiny is a funny thing, and in this novel, structured as a series of clever e-mails, letters, notes, and a trail of missed opportunities, Alex and Rosie find out that fate isn’t done with them yet.

Thoughts:

This book is sooo unique! I love the fact that we got to go back and forth between Alex and Rosie’s life just to keep us at the edge of our seat. I have to admit it’s a bit frustrating, but I just couldn’t put it down. It’s super fast paced because the story is told through a series of letters and emails and it’s super cute and gah. Read it.

The Edge of Never by J. A Redmerski (The Edge of Never #1)

16081272

Synopsis:

Twenty-year-old Camryn Bennett had always been one to think out-of-the-box, who knew she wanted something more in life than following the same repetitive patterns and growing old with the same repetitive life story. And she thought that her life was going in the right direction until everything fell apart.

Determined not to dwell on the negative and push forward, Camryn is set to move in with her best friend and plans to start a new job. But after an unexpected night at the hottest club in downtown North Carolina, she makes the ultimate decision to leave the only life she’s ever known, far behind.

With a purse, a cell phone and a small bag with a few necessities, Camryn, with absolutely no direction or purpose boards a Greyhound bus alone and sets out to find herself. What she finds is a guy named Andrew Parrish, someone not so very different from her and who harbors his own dark secrets. But Camryn swore never to let down her walls again. And she vowed never to fall in love.

But with Andrew, Camryn finds herself doing a lot of things she never thought she’d do. He shows her what it’s really like to live out-of-the-box and to give in to her deepest, darkest desires. On their sporadic road-trip he becomes the center of her exciting and daring new life, pulling love and lust and emotion out of her in ways she never imagined possible. But will Andrew’s dark secret push them inseparably together, or tear them completely apart?

Thoughts:

I actually can’t quite remember what the story is about but I did remember absolutely LOVING it. It’s got a wanderlust theme and I think it was angsty as well? Hah. I love Camryn and Andrew though. They’re so relatable. Andrew is eVERYTHING ❤

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

18692431

Synopsis:

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Thoughts:

Super short but memorable ❤ I freaking love that we follow a PoC lead and she’s an amazing one at that. Nicola Yoon is amazing.

My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga

18336965

Synopsis:

Sixteen-year-old physics nerd Aysel is obsessed with plotting her own death. With a mother who can barely look at her without wincing, classmates who whisper behind her back, and a father whose violent crime rocked her small town, Aysel is ready to turn her potential energy into nothingness.

There’s only one problem: she’s not sure she has the courage to do it alone. But once she discovers a website with a section called Suicide Partners, Aysel’s convinced she’s found her solution: a teen boy with the username FrozenRobot (aka Roman) who’s haunted by a family tragedy is looking for a partner.

Even though Aysel and Roman have nothing in common, they slowly start to fill in each other’s broken lives. But as their suicide pact becomes more concrete, Aysel begins to question whether she really wants to go through with it. Ultimately, she must choose between wanting to die or trying to convince Roman to live so they can discover the potential of their energy together. Except that Roman may not be so easy to convince.

Thoughts:

The main characters in this are super awkward and adorable. I don’t see this book around the web a lot and honestly it should be! It’s a powerful book and I feel that everyone should read this! It’s a bit of a slow burn but I promise you you will get something out of this book one way or another.

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

20820994

Synopsis:
Jude and her twin brother, Noah, are incredibly close. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude cliff-dives and wears red-red lipstick and does the talking for both of them. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking. Something has happened to wreck the twins in different and dramatic ways . . until Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy, as well as someone else—an even more unpredictable new force in her life. The early years are Noah’s story to tell. The later years are Jude’s. What the twins don’t realize is that they each have only half the story, and if they could just find their way back to one another, they’d have a chance to remake their world.

Thoughts:

This book takes a bit of time to get into but once you get there, oh you’ll devour it. It’s heartbreaking and expressive and you just drown in Jandy Nelson’s writing. It’s full of emotion angst and I absolutely love it.

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

18460392

Synopsis:

Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him.

Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s recent death.

When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself—a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.

Thoughts:

I actually thought of putting this book down at first, but after getting through the first half (of which I skimmed through), things got so, so dark and I had to go back and pick up the bits and pieces that I left out. Gosh this tore me apart. I love Theodore Finch as a character – he’s not the angsty type. He’s loud and wild and quirky but he’s so real. He’s so real that it hurts. prOTECT THEODORE FINCH AT ALL COSTS.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

11235712

Synopsis:

Sixteen-year-old Cinder is considered a technological mistake by most of society and a burden by her stepmother. Being cyborg does have its benefits, though: Cinder’s brain interference has given her an uncanny ability to fix things (robots, hovers, her own malfunctioning parts), making her the best mechanic in New Beijing. This reputation brings Prince Kai himself to her weekly market booth, needing her to repair a broken android before the annual ball. He jokingly calls it “a matter of national security,” but Cinder suspects it’s more serious than he’s letting on.
Although eager to impress the prince, Cinder’s intentions are derailed when her younger stepsister, and only human friend, is infected with the fatal plague that’s been devastating Earth for a decade. Blaming Cinder for her daughter’s illness, Cinder’s stepmother volunteers her body for plague research, an “honor” that no one has survived.
But it doesn’t take long for the scientists to discover something unusual about their new guinea pig. Something others would kill for.

Thoughts:

Cinder is one of my favorite female protagonist ever. She’s proves to be stronger and smarter than most protagonists I know and I have so much respect for her because of that. Yes she can be naive but she’s sixteen for goodness sake and she gets into major trouble so you can’t blame a teen for that can’t you? Also – KAI IS MY BABY GAHHH ❤ Love this book so much. This is my favorite YA series because each book gets better and it’s also diverse and ugh it’s perfect, okay? Now go read it will ya? xD

Rebel of The Sands by Alwyn Hamilton (Rebel of The Sands #1)

24934065

Synopsis:

She’s more gunpowder than girl—and the fate of the desert lies in her hands.

Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mystical beasts still roam the wild and barren wastes, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinni still practice their magic. But there’s nothing mystical or magical about Dustwalk, the dead-end town that Amani can’t wait to escape from.

Destined to wind up “wed or dead,” Amani’s counting on her sharpshooting skills to get her out of Dustwalk. When she meets Jin, a mysterious and devastatingly handsome foreigner, in a shooting contest, she figures he’s the perfect escape route. But in all her years spent dreaming of leaving home, she never imagined she’d gallop away on a mythical horse, fleeing the murderous Sultan’s army, with a fugitive who’s wanted for treason. And she’d never have predicted she’d fall in love with him… or that he’d help her unlock the powerful truth of who she really is.

Thoughts:

I didn’t really like it the time I read it but that’s just me. I probably would have liked it much better if I picked it up at a better time. It had loads of potential. This reminded me so much of The Wrath and the Dawn because of the main protagonist and the setting. I’d love to give this book another try because it won the Goodreads choice award.

[ROMANCE-DIVERSED-MATURE]

Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

7600924

And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: a love this devastating has no happy ending

Thoughts:

I’m not sure how many times i’ve described any of these books as ‘heartbreaking’ but this one is just a whole other level xD . It’s very hard to read but rewarding somehow. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s really powerful, and I learned so much from this.

The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh (The Wrath and the Dawn #1 )

18798983

Shahrzad is determined not only to stay alive, but to end the caliph’s reign of terror once and for all.

Night after night, Shahrzad beguiles Khalid, weaving stories that enchant, ensuring her survival, though she knows each dawn could be her last. Incredibly, Shahrzad finds herself falling in love. How is this possible? It’s an unforgivable betrayal. She resolves to uncover whatever secrets lurk and, despite her love, be ready to take Khalid’s life as retribution for the many lives he’s stolen. Can their love survive this world of stories and secrets?

Thoughts:

This one’s so romantic ❤ Renee Ahdieh has such eloquent writing. I never read the original story but now that I’ve read this retelling I kind of want to pick up One Thousand and One Nights 😀 This book has an interesting premise, well crafted setting and an amazing set of characters. Shahrzad is one heck of a lady ❤

[ROMANCE-DIVERSED-NEW ADULT]

The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden (The Coincidence #1)

16113791

Synopsis:

For Kayden, suffering in silence was the only way to survive. If he was lucky, he could keep his head down, do as he was told, and make it through the day. But one night it seemed like his luck — and his life — might finally end… until an angel named Callie appeared just in time to rescue him.

Callie has never believed in luck. Not since her twelfth birthday when everything was taken from her. After the worst was over, she locked up her feelings and vowed never to tell anyone what happened. Now, six years later, she continues to struggle with the painful secret that threatens to consume her.

When fate lands Kayden and Callie at the same college, Kayden is determined to get to know the beautiful girl who changed his destiny. Quiet and reserved, Callie still fears letting anyone else into her world. But Kayden is certain that Callie has come back into his life for a reason. And the more he tries to be a part of her life, the more he realizes that, this time, it’s Callie who needs to be saved…

Thoughts:

This ones’s more sad-romantic than cute-romantic. It has a really slow build up and there isn’t really any insta -love (which i appreciate). Did I mention that this one’s angsty as well? xD It’s a really deep, dark book but it holds so much meaning.

Easy by Tammara Webber (Contours Of the Heart #1)

16056408

Synopsis:

Her friends nominate him to be the perfect rebound.

When her attacker turns stalker, Jacqueline has a choice: crumple in defeat or learn to fight back. Lucas remains protective, but he’s hiding secrets of his own. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy

Thoughts:

The story is alright, but what I love about this book is the message. It proves that women are stronger than they seem and are capable of doing anything. B)

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes (Me Before You #1)

15507958

Thoughts:

Sooo lovely. Very realistic, very interesting, you learn SO much from this. Heart wrenching, beautiful and sad ❤

My Lea by E. Mellyberry (A Broken Love Story #1)

25105652

Synopsis:

A simple girl.

A broken guy.

One horrible incident.

When Lea Amelia landed her feet in San Francisco for her overseas study, her idea of freedom was simple, like eating junk food ten times a day, sitting in front of the TV in her PJs, or going out late with her friends without the need to check in with her mother constantly.

Then she met Andrew Jaya, her brothers’ best friend. A twenty-two-year-old guy whose physical appearance looked like he was crafted straight from God’s heavenly hands, but possessed a past as bleak as if it was drawn by Evil himself. A conflicted guy who wore sadness like nobody’s business beneath his mask, a perfect-looking mask she slowly peeled away.

He was also the guy who hurt her.

Suddenly, everything about her was no longer simple.

Andrew Jaya had convinced himself that not feeling was good for him. He’d been doing it splendidly for almost his entire life. But that was before his best friend’s sister stepped into his life and ruined it. After weeks of knowing Lea, all of those warm and wonderful feelings he’d long ago denied to himself started to reappear. Problem was, the brighter the light, the bigger the shadows that came with it.

His traumatic past refused to let him go.

When the unthinkable happened, the easiest thing to do was to run. But life often proves that the easiest way is usually the hardest.

Thoughts:

INDONESIAN PRIDE <3. I think this is the only Own voices book I’ve ever read (if you have any recommendations, do let me know!) I highly respect the author for being able to highlight such a bold topic (and also for having her book being sold all around some of Indonesia’s well-known bookstores) ❤ This book should reach more people internationally too. 🙂

Wow what a long list haha! I hope you found a book you’ll be reading tonight 🙂 Let me know if you’ve read any of these and what you thought of them!

Thanks for reading! Sending all the love and hugs your way ❤
