Title: Skye and The One Republic

Author: Bryan Kelsey

Rating: 3/5 robots

Goodreads’ Synopsis:

Skye, the first super-human in history, unaware of her secret past, and the pinnacle of all the abnormal-being a teenager. The world after World War III had created the One Republic, a powerful government which had spent years searching for Skye. No longer could those who loved her keep her hidden. Skye is forced on a journey to find the truth, save her loved ones, and inflict pain on the One Republic. In order to do so, she needs to join the Resistance. Risking getting their attention with a modern day gladiatorial race of death, Skye is forced to fight her competitors while navigating a series of dangerous obstacles and creatures. Forget winning, survival would be the ultimate goal. How can a girl stand up to an empire? Well it helps having a robot sidekick named Jupiter. Set in the future this Sci-fi fantasy adventure story follows the story of a young girl up against the weight of an empire.

I was really looking forward to reading it, the synopsis sounded super cool. I have this love-hate relationship with Sci-Fi books where I never have the need to pick them up but when I do I enjoy them immensely, but this book didn’t quite meet my expectations. I love the characters and how different each of them are, but everything happened really quickly. The relationships between all the characters just escalates (especially Skye and her love interest in this book) and the plot just keeps whipping in and out despite the lack of world building. The author has written this epic adventure of a story but it just wasn’t planned thoroughly. I feel like everything was rushed, including the writing. It wasn’t bad or anything, but it just needs some tweaking (grammar and punctuation wise).

Apart from that, everything else was fine. The story overall had its flaws, but I enjoyed it! This book has so much potential, and I hope the sequel gets better! I recommend this if you’re a fan of Dystopian & Sci-Fi. I feel like fans of The Maze Runners Series would highly enjoy this! Happy reading lovelies ❤
